Praying for your children-grandchildren (5)

To have Wisdom

When the throne of Solomon was established after the alliance with Egypt (1 Kings 3), the Lord God appeared  to Solomon and said “Ask for whatever you want me to give you.” If God approached with that same offer, what would you ask for? Your answer would tell God much about your value system!

Solomon acknowledged his youth and inexperience to carry out his duties and so he said “So give me a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong.”

Solomon asked for a discerning heart of wisdom rather than a long life, wealth and power!

As a person and a parent, wisdom is an attribute that is sorely needed as you are confronted with decisions that need action.

But wisdom enables us to see the consequences of our actions before we act, which enables us to make the right decision as to what action to take.

James writes “If anyone lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. (James 1:5)

So what sort of wisdom should we pray for our adult children/grandchildren to have?

  1. Pray that your adult child/grandchild will have the wisdom to fear God.

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom (Proverbs 9:10)”

  1. Pray that your adult child/grandchild will have the wisdom to discern right from wrong in every situation with every person.

“So  give me a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong.” (1 Kings 3:6)

  1. Pray that your adult child/grandchild will have the wisdom to always seek the counsel of godly and wise people

“Incline your ear and hear the words of the wise, and apply your heart to knowledge” (Proverbs 22:17)

  1. Pray that your adult child/grandchild will have the wisdom to ask for God’s wisdom.

“For the Lord gives wisdom and from his mouth comes knowledge and understanding. (Proverbs 2:6)

Pray each day for your adult children that they may seek and find wisdom in all their dealings with people, business and life.

Understanding  their purpose in life

We are seeing many people being confused about their purpose in life. We have young people studying at school not knowing what work they want to do. We have adults changing jobs four or five times trying to get somewhere in life.

Many just do not understand their purpose in life. They live to exist and survive. They work long hours and a couple of jobs to pay a mortgage and a lifestyle that they think might give them happiness.

Finding meaning and purpose in your life is the key to find happiness and joy despite your circumstances. Finding meaning and purpose gives you a sense of contentment.

We believe that all people have been created for God’s purposes. Finding that purpose and is the key to find meaning, contentment in fulfilment. Sometimes they may not be aware that God is acting in their life but your praying for God’s purposes will help them connect with God’s purposes that he has ordained from the beginning of time. And hopefully discover God in that purpose.

May He grant you according to your heart’s desire, and fulfil all your purpose (Psalm 20:4)

To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven. (Ecclesiastes 3:1)

We know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purposes(Romans 8:28)

Lord I pray for .............. to have a sense of purpose for their life and the ability to understand that purpose with clarity. Give them your Spirit of wisdom and the Spirit of revelation so that the eyes of their hearts will be opened and know the hope of their eternal calling. I pray that Your plans for their life purpose will not be thwarted by the Enemy but will be fulfilled. I pray that they will succeed so that Your plans and purpose for them and the world will be be realised.
