Praying for your children-grandchildren (4)

Prayer to pray for children/grandchildren (from Stormie Omartian)

Sometimes it is hard to know where to start to pray for your adult children.

Note that the prayer begins by asking God to teach us to pray. It is the same request that the disciples asked of Jesus. Note that your fears and anxieties can dominate your life with your child and so it is important to ask God to release you from these.

Note that forgiveness of yourself for your parenting is important. Remember that you did your best. Don’t hold on to your guilt but give it to Jesus. Don’t forget to forgive your parenting partner and your children.

Note that thanksgiving, belief in a big God and patience to wait for God to answer are key elements to help you pray for your adult children.

Lord, I pray you would teach me how to intercede for my adult children. Thank you that You love me and my children and You will hear my prayers for them. Set me free from all worry and concern I have about them so I can have peace. I know that You are greater than anything that they face. Thank you that because Your love and power are poured out in me, my prayers for them will have power.

Help me not to blame myself for things that go wrong in their lives. Where I have made mistakes I confess those to you and ask that You would redeem them all and release me from guilt. Help me to forgive my adult children for anything they have done to hurt or disappoint me. Help me to forgive my adult children’s other parent for anything I feel he or she did wrong in raising them. Help me to forgive anyone who has hurt my adult children in any way. Help me to forgive myself for any time I feel that I have not been a perfect parent.

Lord, iIknow You are the only perfect parent. Thank you for loving my adult children as much as i do. Thank you for hearing my prayers for them. Give me faith to believe and patience to wait for answers. Today I say “For this adult child I prayed, and you, Lord, have heard my prayers and granted my petition” (1 Samuel 1:27). I give you all the praise and glory.

A Heart for God and His ways

The Christian journey is for life. Sometimes our adult children wander from the path of God. They can get caught up with work and parenting and the busyness of life. Some deliberately turn their backs on God for whatever reason.

Your praying is significant for their ongoing spiritual well being and their future with God. Your prayers can bring a spiritual change and direction for your adult children. So what do we need to pray for?

  1. Pray that they desire to know God

Your children need to know God’s love and salvation. They need to know God personally so that they might live and rely upon Him. Pray that your child has an encounter with the living God that connects them with God for life.

  1. Pray that they desire to live God’s way

Knowledge of God’s way is found in the Scriptures. Pray that they would have a love to read the Scriptures and seek the way of God through the reading of the Bible.

  1. Pray that they have a repentant heart

A repentant heart is one that is submissive and has no rebellion.  A repentant heart is a humble heart and is willing to say sorry. Pray for a spirit of repentance to live in your adult child.

  1. Pray that they desire to know what God has done.

Your adult child hear about what God has done and is doing through your sharing of His activity in your life. Pray that they may be open to hear what you share about God’s work in your life. Pray that you have no fear in telling them.

Pray each day for your adult children that they have a heart for God and His ways.
