Pray for one another-Confess

So then, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, so that you will be healed. The prayer of a good person has a powerful effect. (James 5:16)

In the Scriptures there are a number of “one another” texts that encourage God’s people to pray and care for one another in a particular way.

The verse from James above is commands that we should do two things: (a) confess our sins to one another and pray for one another.  As it is a command, the implications are that this is something we should do always as a Christian. It is part of being a Christian and not an optional extra.

The fruit of such praying is found at the end of the same verse: healing takes place. People are healed, made whole through our praying.

The power of our praying is found in the same verse: the prayer of a good person has a powerful effect. Our praying does not disappear into outer space or cyberspace but has a huge impact upon people’s lives.

Often we underestimate the power of our praying.

This year we will be encouraged to pray for one another by name.

While you may not know them very well or their needs, God does and will use our praying to bless a member of our congregation.
